House of Lords
Data on the House of Lords is more difficult to collate and there is no definitive list that exists. Sir Satyendra Sinha was the first Indian and probably the first non-white peer who became Baron Sinha of Rajpur, a hereditary peer in 1919. Learie Constantine, was the first peer of African descent who was a well-known Trinidadian cricketer and lawyer. He became Baron Constantine of Maraval and Nelson in 1969. Based on information from various unofficial sources, including Operation Black Vote, there are currently 44 minority ethnic members of the House of Lords, 5.4% of the total membership of 801 peers.
