It was a cold day, but the roar and noise of 60,000 people at Wembley Stadium together with exhilarating pomp and colour from hundreds of dancers made sure that the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm welcome.

It is usually the likes of Manchester United and Madonna who thrill the audience – not a political leader.Even David Cameron got a surprise when he introduced PM Modi, receiving tumultuous applauds and noise. It can only help the Tories future election campaign. Mr Cameron thanked the immense contribution made by Indians in Britain and again stated: “It won’t be long until there is a British Indian prime minister in Downing Street.”

Thousands of people made their way into a stadium – many probably never would envisage coming to such a venue since they have no affinity to football. But that all changed – how many Indian dancers and singers can now say they have performed at Wembley in front of thousands of people.
Modi seems not only made deals with Britain of around £9.2 billion, but offered confidence and self belief to hundreds of performers have helped to bring new confidence to organise mega performances.

His speech was made like that of a world statesman would do. The shouts of his detractors outside were easily drowned out by the roar of the Modi fan club.
The Modi Government has promised continued economic growth and pull India out of poverty. He wants all Indians to have a bank account and girls to have the same opportunities as boys. Many politicians have promised all this in the past, but Mr Modi has the drive to push things through. He wants to end the misery and embarrassment of public toilets and clean up Indian not only in terms of corruption but also the litter from the streets. His Government has demonstrated their drive with the creative campaigns such as SelfiewithDaughter and Clean Indian Campaign.
However, behind all the good causes he still has a lot to do with accusations of intolerance toward minorities and human rights. He still is a divisive figure and still has a long way to go to establish and sustain his world statesman badge. But at Wembley, he could do no wrong as he walked around the entire stadium to thank his supporters – “Bharat Mata Ki Jai!” “Hail Mother India!”
